Garden-Center of Social Assistance for Women

Kyiv region

about us

Garden-Center of Social Assistance for Women is an integrated therapeutic space created within the structure of a monastery garden in the Kyiv region.

The project combines spiritual tradition, evidence-based design principles, and modern approaches to horticultural therapy, creating a safe environment for the psychological, emotional, and social rehabilitation of women and children.

Space Concept

At the core of the planning structure is functional zoning with a clear hierarchy of routes and usage scenarios. The space is designed as a therapeutic landscape where each zone has a defined purpose and meets the specific needs of visitors.

The central dominant of the garden is the main tree, planted in the compositional center. It symbolizes support, renewal, and resilience. A radially constructed network of paths forms a logical system of transitions between zones and ensures intuitive navigation.

Functional Zones

1. Zone of Quiet Reflection

The central dominant of the garden is the main tree, planted in the compositional center. It symbolizes support, renewal, and resilience. A radially constructed network of paths forms a logical system of transitions between zones and ensures intuitive navigation.

2. Group Support Zone

An open area for conducting therapeutic sessions, training workshops, women’s circles, art and garden therapy. Mobile elements are provided to adapt the space for various formats of work.

3. Medicinal and Therapeutic Herb Garden

Specially curated collection of plants with calming, restorative, and immune-supporting properties. The herbs are used both in practical garden therapy and for educational purposes.

4. Vegetable Garden as a Space for Recovery

A separate area is dedicated to a social vegetable garden, where women and children are involved in the cycle of growing vegetables and herbs.

The garden functions as:
• a tool for occupational therapy;
• a space for fostering responsibility and self-sufficiency;
• an educational platform for children;
• a source of organic produce.

A system for multiple harvests throughout the season is provided (staggered sowing, succession cropping, multi-tiered beds), allowing for several fruiting cycles.

planning structure

The path system performs not only a transport function but also a therapeutic one:

delineation of active and quiet zones;
ensuring safe movement;
formation of “soft walk” routes to reduce anxiety;
creation of circular routes without “dead ends,” which psychologically reduces the feeling of confinement.
Surfaces are selected with accessibility and tactile diversity in mind.
social mission

The Garden-Center is a space for the comprehensive support of women who have found themselves in difficult life circumstances.

Through interaction with nature, the following directions are realized:
psycho-emotional stabilization;
recovery from traumatic experience;
formation of a mutual support community;
development of self-sufficiency skills;
ecological and spiritual education of children.
The project combines the spiritual tradition of a monastery garden with modern approaches to therapeutic landscape design, creating an environment where nature becomes a tool for healing and restoring dignity.

Before: A neglected area that required transformation into a place of support.

After: A fully equipped space where every woman feels support and peace.

Help us create more healing spaces

We believe that every garden is a space for recovery and life. And we are looking for like-minded people who will help these gardens bloom.
