CF Rehabilitation Gardens
Creating spaces that support the recovery of body, mind and dignity
about us
We transform hospital grounds into therapeutic environments: accessible, sensory-focused, and safe — where nature becomes part of rehabilitation and therapy
This is not “landscaping.” It is therapeutic infrastructure designed according to the principles of evidence-based design. Research into healthcare environments shows that contact with nature (visual access to greenery, natural light, access to a garden) is linked to better recovery outcomes — specifically, a reduced need for strong analgesics, fewer negative nursing notes, and shorter hospital stays for patients with views of nature.
The word garden translates from Persian as — Paradise. We create gardens for people who have survived the hell of war, illness, loss of family and loved ones, their homes, and their way of life.
Our Goal
To build a network of inclusive green zones within Ukraine’s medical facilities and provide patients with access to high-quality outdoor rehabilitation — in alignment with the global trend of strengthening rehabilitation as a component of the healthcare system.
The problem we address
We restore physical and mental health by creating therapeutic and rehabilitation gardens in children’s hospitals, military hospitals, and communities across Ukraine.
Changes driven by donors
Expanding the capacity to implement design solutions for accessibility and rehabilitation, creating new locations for the delivery of a comprehensive physical and mental health treatment cycle.
We create an environment where:

psychophysiological stress is reduced, and a sense of control and safety emerges

there is a place for first steps, gait training, and endurance exercises in the open air

«silent» rehabilitation occurs — through the restoration of attention, sleep, and emotional stability
The scientific basis supports the idea that natural environments contribute to faster stress recovery (through positive emotions and physiological responses)

Medical therapeutic gardens
Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute
Type: Treatment and rehabilitation garden
Target group: Patients after neurosurgical interventions
Status: One of the first implemented projects
The “Garden of Dreams,” created in 2017 near the Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute, became my first therapeutic gardening project. The view of blooming sakuras from the intensive care windows became a symbol of hope for patients and the beginning of my professional journey in creating healing gardens.
Rehabilitation Garden of Okhmatdyt NDSL (Outdoor)
Type: Outdoor rehabilitation space
Focus: Emotional stabilization, sensory support, space for families
A specialized outdoor space designed for children and their families. The project focuses on the emotional stabilization of patients and providing sensory support. The garden serves as a place for rest and psychological decompression within a children’s hospital environment.
Two therapeutic rooftop gardens at Okhmatdyt NDSL (Oncology department, closed type)
Type: Closed rehabilitation spaces
Target group: Children with oncological diseases
Feature: Safe, controlled environment within the hospital premises
These are unique closed rehabilitation spaces (rooftop gardens) created specifically for children with oncological diseases. The key feature of the project is the creation of a safe and controlled environment that allows children to be in nature without leaving the hospital, helping to overcome social isolation during long-term treatment.
Kyiv Regional Children’s Hospital
Type: Rehabilitation garden
Goal: Physical and psycho-emotional recovery of children
The project was implemented to support the physical and psycho-emotional recovery of children at the regional level. The landscape is used as a tool to accelerate the rehabilitation of hospital patients through a combination of play and therapeutic elements.
Rehabilitation of the defenders of Ukraine
Mental Health Center for Defenders
Type: Rehabilitation garden
Focus: PTSD, nervous system regulation, safe space
A garden designed as a therapy tool for veterans and military personnel. The space assists in nervous system regulation and addressing PTSD symptoms by providing defenders with a sense of safety and tranquility, which is critical for mental recovery.
Rehabilitation Center for Veterans
Type: Specialized therapeutic landscape
Focus: Physical, cognitive, and psycho-emotional rehabilitation
The project is aimed at systematic support for defenders. The specialized landscape environment facilitates not only physical recovery but also aids in cognitive rehabilitation and the stabilization of the psycho-emotional state of veterans through purposeful sensory stimulation.
Social projects
Center for the Protection of Women and Their Children
Type: Social-therapeutic space
Target group: Women and children in crisis situations
Goal: Creation of a safe, stabilizing environment
The garden-center for social assistance to women in the Kyiv region is a space for psychological and spiritual recovery located on the grounds of a monastery garden. Reflection zones, group support areas, an apothecary garden, and a vegetable patch are integrated around a central symbolic tree.
Logical pathways connect locations for garden therapy and collaborative work. Interaction with nature helps women and children restore internal resilience through occupational therapy and crop cultivation.
Assistance in creating a children’s home
Type: Social charitable initiative
Content: Forming a supportive space for children
Starting as friendly assistance, this project grew into a systematic renovation of the children’s home territory with an important therapeutic mission. Thanks to new green zones, children who have gone through the experience of occupation received a safe and aesthetic environment that facilitates their psychological recovery.
Memorial projects
Memorial Garden / Alley of Remembrance for Fallen Heroes
Type: Memorial landscape
Function: A space of dignity, remembrance, and quiet grieving
An already implemented space that combines honoring the memory of heroes with a therapeutic function. It is a place for quiet reflection, providing the families of the fallen and the community with the opportunity to process the pain of loss with dignity through contact with nature and symbols of remembrance.
Memory Square for Fallen Heroes (new project in development)
Status: Concept / Development
Direction: Combining memorial function and therapeutic landscape
Idea: A space not only for memory but also for healing for families
A project where memorial significance is integrated into a therapeutic park. The core idea is to create a space that serves not just as a place of remembrance, but also as a tool for healing and transforming trauma for the families of the fallen and the entire community.
Winter programs for support and natural rehabilitation
In the first year of the full-scale war, we launched winter nature-therapy initiatives, which we have been systematically implementing for the fourth consecutive year as part of our rehabilitation activities.
Excursions to the Botanical Garden
With the support of colleagues and benefactors, we provide transportation, catering, and organized visits to the botanical garden during the azalea blooming period — a time when the space is filled with color, light, and the sense of life continuing despite the war.
Joint Flower Plantings
For two consecutive years, a distinct area of our work has been the planting of bulbous plants in pots. Children, military personnel, and medical staff personally plant tulips, daffodils, and other spring flowers, symbolically planting hope for the future.
Therapeutic Effect of the Programs
When the flowers bloom in the spring, it becomes a symbol of resilience, the cyclical nature of life, and the belief in continuity.
We take pride in partnering with those for whom social responsibility means concrete actions.
For 5 years, the ambassadors of all our charitable projects have consistently been garden centers, nurseries, landscaping companies, and over 120 volunteers
We express our sincere gratitude to our colleagues and members of the Guild of Landscape Architects of Ukraine (GLAU), who have supported us from the very beginning and remain with us today. After all, GLAU represents professionals from all over Ukraine, united by a common goal into one large community.
